We can’t get enough of the lives of the stars, but when it comes to celebrity weddings, it’s on a whole other level. During the ‘70s and ‘80s, some of the most iconic celebs said 'I do' and their weddings were full of glitz and glam. From Princess Diana and Prince Charles to Madonna and Sean Penn, we’re getting nostalgic by looking back at some of the most famous celebrity weddings from these decades. While some of these couples are no longer together, others' love has lasted the ages. Do you remember these celeb duos and their weddings?

Mick Jagger and Bianca Perez-Mora Macias (1971)

Mick Jagger has quite the reputation for being a ladies’ man, but The Rolling Stones lead singer has actually only been married once. Jagger met Nicaragua-born Bianca Perez-Mora Macias in 1970 and the two got married in a private ceremony on May 12, 1971 in Saint-Tropez, France. The blushing bride, who was pregnant at the time with their daughter Jade, was a sight to behold at her wedding, wearing a Yves Saint Laurent pantsuit, instead of a traditional gown. But their marriage wasn’t meant to last—they separated in 1977 and in May 1978 she filed for divorce.

Julio Iglesias and Isabel Preysler (1971)

Spanish singer Julio Iglesias is the most successful Spanish singer in the world and he’s one of the top record sellers in music history. On January 29, 1971, he married the lesser-known Isabel Preysler who was a Filipina TV host and a member of the wealthy, aristocratic Pérez de Tagle family. The couple had three children together, perhaps you may have heard of one of their famous sons—Enrique Iglesias? While they started a family together, their marriage wasn’t meant to last and was over by 1979.

Aretha Franklin and Glynn Turman (1978)

Aretha Franklin and Glynn Turman were a match made in heaven—one was the “Queen of Soul” and the other was a famous actor. The two met during a Ben Vereen show through one of Franklin’s sons who grabbed Turman’s attention by saying, “Glynn Turman! Oh my gosh, my mother just loves you,'” as Turman recalled while on the Bullseye with Jesse Throne podcast. A year later on April 11, 1978, the two tied the knot at her father’s church and she became a stepmother to his three children from a previous marriage. Ultimately, the marriage didn’t work out and they separated in 1982 before getting a divorce in 1984.

Alana and Rod Stewart (1979)

Rod Stewart has lived the rock ’n’ roll lifestyle and like many other rockstars, he’s gained a reputation for being a bit of a womanizer. After all, he’s been married three times, all of which have ended in divorce. The “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” singer’s first marriage was to actress Alana Hamilton. The couple wed in 1979 and they had a daughter, Kimberly, and a son, Sean, together before splitting up in 1984. Stewart later said that getting married at 34 was too young. “I still had a lot of living, partying, and drinking ... to do,” he shared with *PEOPLE*.

Tatum O’Neal and John McEnroe (1986)

When they met, Tatum O’Neal was the youngest person ever to win an Oscar at just 10 years old and John McEnroe was a famous tennis player. They started dating in 1984 before getting married on August 1, 1986. They have three children together: Kevin, Sean, and Emily. But that wasn’t enough to keep them together—they separated in 1992 before getting divorced in 1994. The actress later expressed regret about the marriage ending during an interview with *CBS Sunday Morning*, “The happiest times of my life were the times that I was married. Sometimes we think we're making the right decision and maybe we aren't. And I have to live with that, too.”

Ringo Starr and Barbara Bach (1981)

It was a match made in heaven—The Beatles drummer Ringo Starr and James Bond girl Barbara Bach. The two met in 1980 on the set of *Caveman* and they got married on April 27, 1981. Starr and Bach are still happily married today and he was the first Beatle to become a great-grandfather in 2016. “It was 40 years ago today. The love of my life said yes yes yes. And I said it right back peace and love,” Starr shared on their anniversary on Instagram.

Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branagh (1989)

Did you know that Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branagh were married? The British acting legends met in 1987 while working on *Fortunes of War* and they later collaborated often, appearing in many films together. Thompson and Branagh got married in 1989 but by 1995, the two split. It was later revealed that he had an affair with Helena Bonham Carter. Surprisingly, Thompson said that the storyline of the character she played in *Love Actually* was very similar to her real-life heartbreak. "I had my heart very badly broken by Ken,” she revealed to *Glamour*.

Madonna and Sean Penn (1985)

Madonna and Sean Penn were the “It Couple” when they were married from 1985 to 1989, but their relationship was rocky. The singer and actor met on the set of her “Material Girl” music video in January 1985 and they tied the knot on August 16, 1985, which was Madonna’s 27th birthday. They even starred in Shanghai Surprise together. But their marriage was full of ups and downs and Madonna filed for divorce a few times, changing her mind, before going through with it in January 1989. Even though things were messy, the pop icon admitted that she is “still in love” with the actor during a charity gala at Art Basel in 2016.

Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick (1988)

With all of the celebrity splits, it’s refreshing to see a couple that’s been together for over three decades. Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick are huge stars and as celebs do, they met on the set of a movie in 1987—Lemon Sky. She was 21 and he was 23 and just a year late on September 4, 1988, they tied the knot and they later welcomed two children: Sosie and Travis. Over 30 years later and Bacon and Sedgwick are still very much in love. Sedgwick opened up about their marriage to The Post saying, "Honestly, we just got lucky, there's no secret, we just got so lucky when we were so young.”

Demi Moore and Bruce Willis (1987)

Demi Moore and Bruce Willis were a power couple in Hollywood after meeting on the set of Stakeout. The Die Hard actor and Ghost actress were already huge stars when they met and they ended up getting married on November 21, 1987 in a ceremony officiated by Little Richard. They have three daughters, Rumor, Scout, and Tallulah, who have also made a name for themselves. The marriage wasn’t meant to last and they got divorced in October 2000, but they’ve stayed close friends since and are the epitome of co-parenting goals.

Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith (1976 and 1989)

Like many other celebrity couples, Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith met on the set of *The Harold Experiment* but she was just 14 and he was 22. By the age of 15, she moved in with him and they got engaged on her 18th birthday before tying the knot in January 1976. The marriage only lasted six months, but after years apart, they found their way back to each other and ended up getting married again in June 1989 and the two had a child named Dakota together. Maybe you recognize her, she’s the girl from the *50 Shades of Grey* films. Their second union also wasn’t meant to be and they divorced again in 1994.

John Lennon and Yoko Ono (1969)

We’ve got another Beatle on this list! We’re talking about the late John Lennon and Yoko Ono. The two met in November 1966 at the Indica Gallery in London where Ono was preparing an art exhibit and he was intrigued by one of her pieces. He was married at the time yet the two ended up getting together and Lennon separated from his wife at the time. Less than a year later on March 20, 1969, Lennon and Ono got married. They shared a son together, Sean, and the two remained married until John was assassinated in December 1980.

Cher and Gregg Allman (1975)

While we’re used to Cher as half of Sonny and Cher, after splitting up with Sonny Bono, she went on to marry The Allman Brothers’ Gregg Allman in June 1975. The marriage was rocky from the start and Cher filed for divorce only nine days after they wed due to his addiction. Over a week later, they reconciled and he then filed for divorce but changed his mind after learning that she was pregnant with their son Elijah. In the end, that wasn’t enough to keep them together—the marriage ended in 1992. Sadly, Allman passed away in May 2017 and the “Goddess of Pop” tweeter her condolences, “IVE TRIED … WORDS ARE IMPOSSIBLE GUI GUI.”

Renate Blauel and Elton John (1984)

Before getting married to his current partner David Furnish, Elton John was married to a woman named Renate Blauel on Valentine’s Day in 1984 in an extravagant wedding ceremony in Darling Point, New South Wales, Australia. The marriage ended in 1988 and John later told *Vanity Fair*, “she was the classiest woman I’ve ever met, but it wasn’t meant to be. I was living a lie.” In 1976, he came out as bisexual in an interview with *Rolling Stone* and in 1992 he told the news outlet that he was "quite comfortable about being gay". A year later, the “Tiny Dancer” singer started a relationship with his current husband, David Furnish.

Wayne Gretzky and Janet Jones (1988)

Dubbed “Canada’s royal wedding” by the press, hockey player Wayne Gretzky’s marriage to actress Janet Jones was a lavish ceremony. The two lovebirds met while Gretzky was a judge on *Dance Fever*, which Jones was a dancer on. But the two didn’t start dating until running into each other at a Celtics-Lakers game six years later. The wedding took place on July 16, 1988 at Edmonton’s St. Joseph’s Basilica and they spared no expense—Gretzky gifted his bride a Rolls Royce convertible and there were $4,000 in edible flowers, as *ET Canada* reported. The two have five children: Paulina, Ty, Trevor, Tristan, and Emma.

Mike Tyson and Robin Givens (1988)

While many couples on this list have called it splits after tying the knot, most of the relationships didn't end badly. But we can’t say that for Mike Tyson and Robin Givens. The boxing legend and the Head of the Class actress were married from February 7, 1988 to February 14, 1989 and their marriage was tumultuous. Givens told Barbara Walters on 20/20 that life with Tyson was "torture, pure h-ll, worse than anything I could possibly imagine."

Samuel L. Jackson and LaTanya Richardson (1980)

There’s no doubt Samuel L. Jackson is a talented actor—he’s starred in over 130 movies including *Star Wars* and *Pulp Fiction*, but he’s also been successful in marriage—he’s been married for over 40 years to actress LaTanya Richardson! The couple met in 1970 while they were attending Morehouse College and they started dating not long after. After dating for ten years, they tied the knot on August 19, 1980 in a private ceremony and they have a daughter named Zoe. Richardson, believes they are revolutionaries, “we used to say the most revolutionary thing was to keep a Black family together. So that became our mantra,” she told *Essence*.

Jane Fonda and Tom Hayden (1973)

Jane Fonda is as known for her activism as she is for her acting. In fact, that’s how she met Tom Hayden. The two crossed paths in 1971 after she joined the activism world that Hayden was a part of and they started dating in 1972 before tying the knot in January 1973. The *9 to 5* actress was fresh off of a separation from her first husband and she was three months pregnant with Hayden’s son Troy O'Donovan Garity. But after almost 17 years of marriage, they divorced in late 1989, but they agreed to keep working together, sticking together professionally.

Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman (1982)

Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman played a married couple on screen in *Matilda* and they were married in real life for over 30 years. The actors met in January 1971 when she went to see a friend in *The Shrinking Bride*, which DeVito also starred in. Two weeks later, they moved in together and they wed in January 1982 and had three kids: Lucy, Grace, and Jacob. Sadly, DeVito and Perlman separated in October 2012, but they reconciled in March 2013 before separating again in March 2017. Even though they’re not together anymore, Perlman said on *Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen*, “I’m not getting divorced. No, no, no. What for? We do live separately. We see each other a lot too.”

Carrie Fisher and Paul Simon (1983)

We fell in love with Carrie Fisher after she played Princess Leia in the *Star Wars* films and that’s where she met Paul Simon of Simon and Garfunkel. The two started dating in 1977 before he proposed to her at a New York Yankees game and they got married in August 1983. But it wasn’t meant to last and they separated in July 1984. During their marriage, she appeared in his music video for the song "Rene and Georgette Magritte with Their Dog after the War". Many of Simon’s songs are believed to be about their relationship including “Hearts and Bones”, “Graceland”, and “She Moves On”.

Robert Kardashian and Kris Houghton (1978)

The Kardashian family is one of the most famous families in the world, but before Kris was the matriarch of the celeb family, she was married to the late lawyer Robert Kardashian. The two met when she was 18 and they dated for four years before tying the knot on July 8, 1978. They had four children together, who perhaps you’ve heard of—Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, and Robert, before getting a divorce in March 1991. She later admitted to having an affair that broke up her family, “When I was in my 30s, I had an affair and my biggest regret was the fact that it broke up my family … it was my turn to really grow up,” Kardashian revealed on the *InCharge With DVF* podcast.

Olivia Newton-John and Matt Lattanzi (1984)

We will always remember Olivia Newton-John as Sandy from *Grease* and we hoped that she would end up with her co-star John Travolta. But it never happened, instead, she met Matt Lattanzi while filming *Xanadu* and the two tied the knot four years later in December 1984. While they were married, Newton-John and Lattanzi had a daughter named Chloe Rose, but they ended up separating in April 1995. Sources close to the pair told *PEOPLE* that they ended because of “spiritual interests”.

Karen Carpenter and Thomas Burris (1980)

Do you know the song “Because We Are in Love”? Well, it’s the song that The Carpenters’ Karen Carpenter taped and then played for guests during her wedding ceremony to Thomas Burris on August 31, 1980. The song was written by her brother and John Bettis and it was released in 1981. Carpenter and Burris had a whirlwind romance and Carpenter wanted children, but it wasn’t possible because he had a vasectomy and refused to get it reversed, so their marriage ended in October 1982, as *NPR* reported.

Tommy Lee and Heather Locklear (1986)

Before being married to Pamela Anderson, Tommy Lee was involved with another Hollywood starlet—Heather Locklear. The Mötley Crüe drummer and the *Melrose Place* actress were an unusual pair—he was tatted up and she was a blonde bombshell, but that didn’t stop them from getting engaged just three months after they met. Get this—she proposed to him. They ended up getting married on May 10, 1986 and it lasted until 1993. After it failed, Locklear told *EW*, “I’m not devastated or destroyed. It’s mostly just sad.”

Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton (1964 and 1975)

Elizabeth Taylor is as known for her marriages as she is for her acting. She was married eight times but two of the marriages were actually to Richard Burton. Taylor and Burton met at a party to celebrate *The Robe*. Taylor was married to actor Michael Wilding and pregnant with their first child at the time. They ended up crossing paths again while filming *Cleopatra* in 1962 and they fell in love and began an affair. The costars tied the knot on March 15, 1964 and it lasted until June 1974. They got married again on October 10, 1975, but this one didn’t last long—it was over by July 1976.

Donny and Debbie Osmond (1978)

Donny Osmond gained fame performing with four of his older brothers as the Osmonds before having a successful solo career and starring in *Donny & Marie*. Osmond started secretly dating Debbie Glenn when he was a teen and by the time he was 19, he knew he was in love and he wanted to do something about it. But his dad told him, “Well, there goes your career, but this is ushering in your personal life,” as he recalled to *The Guardian*. The singer went along with it anyway and the two wed on May 8, 1978. They have five sons: Don, Jeremy, Brandon, Cristopher, and Joshua, and 12 grandchildren.

Joan Collins and Peter Holm (1985)

Joan Collins is as known for her acting as she is for being married—she’s tied the knot a whopping five times! Collins met her fourth husband, former singer Peter Holm in the summer of 1983 and he was 36, 14 years younger than she was. The two tied the knot on November 6, 1985, in Las Vegas, but things weren’t meant to last and they ended the relationship by August 1987. After they split, Holm tried to get money from the *Dynasty* actress, asking for $4 to $5 million, but luckily, they signed a prenup before they got married and a judge ruled that he was only entitled to 20% of her income during the time they were married, as *Washington Post* reported.

Caitlyn (Bruce) Jenner and Linda Thompson (1981)

Now that we’ve spoken about Kris Jenner, it’s time to mention her former husband, who now goes by Caitlyn Jenner. Before meeting Kris, she was married twice and her second wife was actress Linda Thompson. Jenner and Thompson said their vows on January 5, 1981 and they had two sons together, Brandon and *The Hills*’ Brody. Early in their marriage, Thompson found out Jenner was transgender and they went to therapy. "In my naivety and my ignorance, I thought it was something that possibly we could fix, and if we couldn't fix it and stay together, at least I could educate myself and understand better what was happening in my life for my family," she told *ET*. They ended up splitting less than a year later in February 1986.

Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley (1985)

A Grammy winner and a supermodel—can you think of a better pairing? “Piano Man” Billy Joel met his second wife model Christie Brinkley in the most celeb way possible—while vacationing at St. Baths in 1983. The couple wed in March 1985 in the New York Harbor while aboard a 147-foot yacht. They had a daughter, Alexa Ray, before splitting up in August 1994. While there were reports that his touring schedule put a strain on their marriage, the reason for their breakup remains private. She told *Entertainment Weekly*, “just because people can express themselves through their art doesn’t mean they are great communicators in person.”

Eric Clapton and Pattie Boyd (1979)

Eric Clapton is one of the greatest guitarists of all time—he’s won 18 Grammys! Upon meeting Pattie Boyd, the “My Father’s Eyes” singer became infatuated with her. But there was one problem—she was married to his friend, The Beatles’ George Harrison. “However hard I tried, I could not get her out of my mind,” Clapton wrote in his memoir *Clapton: The Autobiography*. He won her over after writing a song about her, “Layla”, and the two dated secretly until she split from Harrison. Clapton and Boyd tied the knot on March 27, 1979, but the marriage was sour—it was filled with his violence and affairs and they split in 1989.

David Bowie and Angie Barnett (1970)

Before the iconic David Bowie was with supermodel Iman, he was married to Angie Barnett. The two wed on March 19, 1970, at Bromley Register Office in Bromley, London. They shared a son named Duncan Zowie Haywood Jones. Barnett helped conceptualize the costumes for the Ziggy Stardust stage show and she said she married Bowie for convenience. "We got married so that I could work [to get a permit]. I didn't think it would last and David said, before we got married, 'I'm not really in love with you' and I thought that's probably a good thing,” she shared with *Evening Standard*. Not surprisingly, the two ended the marriege in February 1980.

Carly Simon and James Taylor (1972)

Carly Simon was one of the most popular musicians back in the ‘70s and one of her biggest hits “Mockingbird” was a collaboration with her former husband James Taylor. The two said 'I do' on November 3, 1972 and they share two children together: Sarah Maria and Benjamin. Simon and Taylor are huge icons and both have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. While they make a great musical pairing and they appeared on each other’s albums during their marriage, their relationship didn’t work and it ended in 1983.

Princess Diana and Prince Charles (1981)

We can't talk about iconic weddings from the 80s and not mention The royal wedding of the decade, that of Prince Charles and Princess Diana. Diana Spencer met Charles when she was 16 and he was 29 and dating her older sister, Sarah. He took a serious interest in Diana and proposed in February 1981 at Windsor Castle. At just 21, Diana became the Princess of Wales when she married Charles on July 29, 1981 at St. Paul’s Cathedral. The couple had two children, Prince Harry and Prince William, but their relationship was rocky and the marriage ended in 1996. Diana was tragically killed in a car accident a year later.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver (1986)

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver seemed like the perfect match. The actor and journalist met in August 1977 at a tennis tournament after being introduced by Tom Brokaw and they began dating not long after. The *Terminator* actor proposed in August 1985 and the two wed on April 26, 1986. During their 25-year marriage, they had four children together: Katherine, Christina, Patrick, and Christopher. But in July 2011, Shriver announced that they were parting ways. Just two months before they split, Schwarzenegger admitted that he fathered a son more than 14 years earlier with the family’s longtime housekeeper Mildred Baena.

Lorna Luft and Jake Hooker (1977)

We’re sure you’ve heard of Judy Garland and her daughter Liza Minelli, but have you heard of Minelli’s half-sister Lorna Luft? Like her big sister Minelli, Luft has also made a career in acting and singing. She tied the knot with fellow singer Jake Hooker on Valentine’s Day in 1977, but the two broke things off in 1993. They had two children together: Jesse and Vanessa. Sadly, he passed away in August 2014.

Rachel Ward and Bryan Brown (1983)

After all of these failed marriages, it’s time to take a look at one that’s lasted almost 40 years. Actors Rachel Ward and Bryan Brown met on the set of *The Thorn Birds* in 1983 and she instantly felt like she found her soulmate. “[I remember] shaking his hand and feeling this extraordinary sense of relief,” Ward told *The Sydney Morning Herald*. Within nine months, the two were married and they had three kids: Rosie, Matilda, and Joe.

Suzi Quatro and Len Tuckey (1976)

Back in the ‘70s Suzi Quatro was one of the biggest rockers and she collaborated with many songwriters including her long-time guitarist Len Tuckey, who she ended up marrying in 1976. They had two children together: Laura and Richard Leonard, but got divorced in 1992. He didn’t like that she was straying away from rock ’n’ roll and she decided that he was holding her back. “Divorce freed me to do other things—play in a musical and write a musical and generally do things that took me out of my comfort zone," she shared in her book *Unzipped*.

Marianne Faithfull and Ben Brierly (1979)

Marianna Faithfull, one of the main ladies to be part of the British Invasion cultural phenomenon, making her super popular during the ‘60s, but in the ‘70s she completely fell off the map because she was battling personal problems. She made a comeback in 1979, which was around the same time that she married Ben Brierly. Even though he had a major influence on her music, the two ended up getting a divorce in 1986.

Jaclyn Smith and Dennis Cole (1978)

Jaclyn Smith is best known for starring in *Charlie’s Angels* and she was the only female lead to be in the series for its complete run. She actually met her second husband Dennis Cole on the set of the show and they dated for 19 months before tying the knot in 1978. But things weren’t meant to last and in 1981 they split. However, this didn’t stop Cole from appearing on the show two more times.

Keith Richards and Patti Hansen (1983)

We’ve got another Rolling Stones member on this list—Keith Richards. Richards met Patti Hansen in 1979 at the only place you’d expect a rockstar to meet a supermodel—Studio 54. She was celebrating her 23rd birthday and he was instantly hooked on her. “The moment I saw Patti, we looked at each other, and I said, ‘Hello, something’s happening to me,’” Richards shared with *Vanity Fair*. The two met up again nine months later at his 36th birthday and they wed on December 18, 1983—his 40th birthday. Richards and Hansen have two children together: Theodora Dupree and Alexandra Nicole and they have one of the strongest unions in rock ’n’ roll history.

Mel Gibson and Robyn Moore (1980)

Mel Gibson is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood and he’s best known for his breakout role in *Mad Max*. Not long after filming *Mad Max* and still a relatively unknown actor, Gibson met Robyn Moore who was a dental nurse. The two wed on June 7, 1980, in Forestville, New South Wales and they had seven kids together: Hannah, Edward, William, Louis, Milo, and Thomas and three grandchildren as of 2011. But their relationship didn’t last and after 26 years of marriage, they split in July 2006. The divorce was finalized in December 2011 and the settlement was the highest in Hollywood history at over $400 million, according to *PEOPLE*.

Donna Summer and Bruce Sudano (1980)

Donna Summer was the “Queen of Disco” and she was extremely popular during the ‘70s. Not only is she one of the best-selling music artists of all time, but the “Bad Girls” singer is often credited as starting electronic dance music. Summer met Brooklyn Dreams singer Bruce Sudano in March 1977 and the two immediately started writing songs together and within a few months, they were dating. They tied the knot on July 16, 1980, and they had two children together: Brooklyn and Amanda who have made names for themselves in the music industry. The two were together up until her death in May 2012.

Björn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Fältskog (1971)

Björn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Fältskog, who are members of ABBA, met a few years before the band was formed at a café. They make up the A and B in ABBA. Did you know that the band was made up of two sets of couples? The other couple was Benny Andersson to Anni-Frid Lyngstad. Björn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Fältskog married on July 6, 1971 and they had two children, Linda Elin and Peter Christian. Both couples of the band ended up separating in the early ‘80s and not long after, ABBA went their separate ways.

Peter Sellers and Miranda Quarry (1970)

*The Goon Show*’s Peter Sellers did it all—he was a comedian, actor, and singer. He married British socialite and model Miranda Quarry on August 24, 1970 and by 1974, the two were separated. Quarry was *The Pink Panther* actor’s third wife and he was her first husband. He went on to marry one more time before passing away at the young age of 54 and she got married twice more.

Stevie Wonder and Syreeta Wright (1970)

Does Stevie Wonder really need an introduction? He influenced music across genres including rhythm and blues, pop, soul, gospel, funk, and jazz. Wonder’s been married three times and he met his first wife and his labelmate Syreeta Wright in 1968. The two started dating the following year and from his advice, she became a songwriter. Wonder and Wright were the dream team, often collaborating and writing songs together. They ended up tying the knot on September 14, 1970, but were over by 1972.

John Denver and Cassandra Delaney (1988)

After traveling and living in many locations growing up, John Denver began his music career with folk groups in the ‘60s and by the ‘70s and he was one of the most popular acoustic artists of the decade.
