When police officers are sworn in, they take an oath to serve and protect. Many cops take this oath very seriously, and they’ll put their lives at risk to make sure civilians are safe. After Sergeant Spencer Oswell noticed a rookie officer’s car blocking an ambulance, he decided to teach him a lesson. The Sergeant had no idea that he would be the one getting the most valuable lesson of all.

The road was already narrow, but on this particular day, there was even less space for cars to pass through because five police vehicles and an ambulance were blocking the way. Traffic was redirected so cars could pass by the scene of the accident. The EMTs were working hard, helping an injured civilian, while another one named Sam Troy, was trying to get out of the jam. But there was a cop car completely blocking the exit.

EMT Sam Troy saw that his partner was ready to put the injured civilian into the stretcher. However, there was one thing in his way: a cop car. The EMT needed the cop to move the car out of the way, but he was surprised by the Sergeant’s angry response. Under his breath, the Sergeant muttered as he looked at the license plate. He then shouted the name of a much younger cop that wasn’t far away. He asked him to move his car, but nothing was being done.

Troy couldn’t get over what he was witnessing. He couldn’t believe that anyone in their right mind wouldn’t move out of the way for an ambulance car, especially a cop. Getting annoyed, the Sergeant decided to take matters into his own hands and move the cruiser himself. However, he hit a roadblock when he discovered the vehicle was locked. Before long, Troy’s attention was taken by his partner, who was waving for him to get into the ambulance. So, he turned to the Sergeant and said, “We need to get a move on.” The officer called the subordinate officer again, only to be ignored.

By the minute, Troy was getting more anxious, which wasn’t like him. He was used to being in all types of challenging situations. But he had a hard time staying calm when he thought about the fact that the one blocking him was a police officer. Trying to come up with a way out, Troy’s mind raced and his eyes searched all around for something that could help him. Then he spotted a tow truck.

“We could ask him for help,” Troy said to the Sergeant. The Sergeant took a look at the tow truck driver and saw him taking a big gulp of water. But this wasn’t going to stop him from running toward the truck. As soon as the driver saw the Sergeant, he explained that he was an extra. “Do you need help with anything?” he asked. The Sergeant nodded, pointing to the locked car that was blocking the ambulance. “You can move that out of the way,” he replied.

The Cost

However, the Sergeant knew that towing the vehicle wouldn’t come cheap. So, he asked the driver how much it would cost. When the tow truck driver responded, Troy and the Sergeant couldn’t help but smile. With this, Troy headed back to the ambulance and clued his partner in on the situation. That’s when his partner gave him a curious look. They then started the engine and waited for their new plan to happen.

They all watched as the tow truck driver hooked the long cable to the car. The driver then went back to the truck to flip the lever. The motor came to life and the cable was pulled tightly. When the front of the vehicle was lifted from the road, there was a creaking noise. Before long, the cruiser was on the grass. Then, there was a yell from a distance and the young cop started running.

Getting Angry

Troy and his partner drove past with the injured civilian, and the Sergeant later told them the rest of the ordeal. After seeing his car being towed, the young cop was irate. His face went completely red and he started shouting at the tow truck driver. He demanded that his car be returned. But the truck driver just brushed him off, which ended up making the young cop even angrier.

The driver informed him that he would only get his cruiser back if he paid the drop rate. “How much is that?” the young cop asked. “One hundred dollars,” the driver responded. At this point, the cop was exploding from anger and he looked at the Sergeant hoping that he would get involved and help. But the Sergeant stood firm and said that if vehicles blocked emergency services, the car could be removed legally. This only set the young cop off.

“I’ll give you forty. That’s absolutely it,” the young cop angrily said. But the driver wasn’t budging. He wasn’t going to take anything less than $100. “Nope. Drop fee is a hundred.” “Fifty,” the cop bargained. “A hundred,” the driver said, staying firm. “It will be more if I pull it away.” Defeated from arguing, the cop let out a sigh and grabbed his wallet from his pants pocket.

The cop took five twenties and crumpled them before shoving them into the tow truck driver’s hand. As soon as the tires were on the ground and the hooks were released, the young cop ran into his car and raced away, still fuming. After watching the whole thing unfold and the cop drive away, the Sergeant couldn’t help but let out a laugh. This lesson had been a long time coming.

The young cop had only been on the job for a few weeks and like most rookies, his ego was inflated and he had a bad attitude with the rest of the squad. But he was worse than the others, and he acted like he had been there for years. While he needed to be taught a lesson, there was a loophole that the Sergeant kept a secret.

Fake Law

The ground they used to move his car didn’t actually exist. They were false. There wasn’t an actual law. The rookie cop didn’t actually need to spend any money at all to get his vehicle back, let alone $100. But his boss was more concerned with teaching him a valuable lesson—the rules apply to everyone, including cops. But what happened to EMT Troy after he left the scene?

Good Laugh

Troy and his partner got to the hospital just in time and the injured civilian from the accident got the care he desperately needed. Like the Sergeant, the EMTs also had a good laugh, helping them let go of all of the stress built up from the day. This only reminded them that emergency services are all part of the same team, even those you least expect.

Troy’s life went on, but back at the station, things became more interesting for the Sergeant that taught the young cop a lesson. The rookie cop wasn’t willing to let go of being embarrassed, and he wanted the Sergeant to pay for it. Sergeant Spencer Oswell continued serving and protecting, which is what he did best, while the rookie cop had plans of his own. The plans lay in the Sergeant’s beloved car.

Serving his country for over 20 years, Sergeant Spencer Oswell was a well-respected member of the police force. He quickly rose to the rank of Sergeant, but when he looked back on his career, there was something he missed. Thinking about his glory days, he remembered what it was like being a rookie cop. And he missed his first patrol car. He had no idea, the special surprise that was waiting for him.

While most officers would jump at the opportunity to get a new car, and an upgrade is always very appreciated, if Spencer Oswell had the choice, he’d give it up for his first patrol cruiser. Over the years, he had a very special bond with the car, and some of his best memories took place in the old cruiser. He thought about his first car often.

Many cops wouldn’t remember the old models, but Oswell remembered a lot about his first car. He thought about it more often than he liked to admit. While he was dreaming of his old vehicle, behind the scenes, the rookie cop was busy thinking of ways to get his revenge on the Sergeant. Believe it or not, it all had to do with Oswell’s very first police cruiser.

A Mentor

Sergeant Oswell was a mentor to the younger officers. Even though he was hard on them, he usually had his reasons. When some young rookie cop needed to be put into place, Oswell was the man to do it. While most people looked up to him for it, one rookie cop who had been reprimanded one time too many, decided that he needed to get his revenge on the Sergeant.

About a week after the situation with the EMTs, Oswell’s colleagues told him they received an important call. There was a suspicious car parked right in front of the police station. It was up to him to investigate it. On full alert, he couldn’t help but think about what could be happening. Thinking the worst, the Sergeant had no idea all the other cops were in on the surprise.

Oswell was on the case. He walked out of his office and rode the elevator down to the ground floor. It was hot outside, and the last thing he wanted to do was leave his air-conditioned office, but duty called. The Sergeant needed to get to the bottom of what was happening. So, he left the station and crossed through the parking lot to get a better look at the mysterious vehicle. His mind couldn’t help but go through the endless possibilities as to why there was an unattended parked car outside the station. He only hoped he wouldn’t need to call in the bomb squad for help.

The Sergeant couldn’t believe what he was seeing when he made his way around the corner. It was as if he was going back into the past. It was his old cruiser, the first police car he drove! But how was that even possible? Approaching the car with curiosity, he gave it a closer look. And that’s when he noticed something unusual that ended up catching his attention.

The Sergeant couldn’t help but feel both excited and suspicious. Things weren’t making much sense, and someone had to be at the bottom of it. Before long, he started thinking about everyone who could be behind this. And that’s when the rookie cop from the EMT situation came to his mind. He couldn’t think of anyone else that it could possibly be. It had to be him.

Some Sort of Joke

Oswell couldn’t help but think that this was a joke. He looked at the cruiser once again, taking a better look inside of it. Everything looked just like his old car. He was at a loss for words. How could this be? The paint job and the interior were exactly the same. This easily could have been his car from all those years ago. But in the back of his mind, he knew that couldn’t be possible.

There was one big thing that wasn’t sitting quite right with the Sergeant. He could tell the car had recently gotten a paint job as it looked like it had been touched up. This couldn’t be his original car. But who went and recreated it? Again, his mind went to the young cop. What could the rookie cop be trying to prove? What was his angle? All of his questions would be answered soon enough!

That’s when Oswell turned and the young cop was standing behind him with a huge smile on his face. “What’s this about? How and why would you go through all of this effort just to get back at me?” the Sergeant asked. The rookie cop started moving closer to him. He couldn’t wipe the smug look from his face. He then put his hand on the Sergeant’s shoulder and started to speak.

“Well, I pitched the idea to all of the other officers. We all see you as a mentor and want to do something extra special for you. One of the older officers informed me that you missed your old patrol car,” the rookie cop proudly said to Oswell. Oswell was touched by this kind gesture. It was more than anything he could have ever asked for. He couldn’t get over what his squad did for him. He felt a bit guilty for being suspicious.

Tons of Emotions

Oswell was known for never showing emotion, especially while on the job. But he couldn’t hold it back any longer. He had never had a surprise quite like this. His eyes filled with tears and his voice started to break. “Thank you, thank you so much. I know I can be hard on you guys, but it’s only because I care so much,” he said while hugging the young cop.

Within just a few short moments, Oswell was in the driver’s seat of the new car. After being on the job for over 20 years, he felt like he was a rookie again. Before he knew it, he was revving up the engine. The cruiser was special just like him. Oswell would never forget what the other officers did for him. They had become like family and they showed him just how much they appreciated his guidance.

When Sergeant Spencer Oswell arrived at the scene of an accident, he had no idea it would completely change his life. After teaching a rookie cop a valuable lesson, he ended up receiving one of the biggest surprises of his career. It’s clear the precinct has nothing but the utmost respect for Sergeant Oswell and we wish him the best. We hope he’s enjoying riding around in his new cruiser.
